Baby-led weaning is like breastfeeding: for the lazy. Thank goodness my instinct for natural parenting nicely aligns with my laziness in food prep. On demand out of my body and off my plate.
I'm lazy too. Unfortunately, my kids don't take to eating table food right away. The good news is after 3 weeks of eating baby food, Little M is an amazing eater. And now he can eat any table food. He out-eats his 2.5-year-old brother. (In fact, Baby T puts his food on Little M's plate when I'm not looking).
I just wrote a blog post about baby led weaning, actually! http://www.tmuffin.com/2011/10/what-is-baby-led-weaning-anyway.html
Mmm, kiwi. We just tried kiwi berries for the first time. Have you ever had them? They are grape-sized mini kiwis that don't have a hairy skin. The "baby" loved them! Deelish!
Your boy is getting soooo big and rocking a very serious look!
too funny! we just began our baby-led weaning journey last night - it went something like "he's going to get a big piece...i think he got a big piece...OMG should i get it out of his mouth?!"
do you ever chill the f out about them choking? how long did it take your little guy to actually swallow the food? i know the book said a couple weeks.
and i totally agree on the lazy part. absolutely sealed the deal for me
So tell me: does J have teeth? Jack doesn't and I have given him little bits of tortilla and such, but am worried about giving him too solid of solids if he has no teeth, but then I see Kiwi on J's plate and it made me curious.
Growing Baby Shelton told me about your blog - Love it! Your little dude is super ridiculously cute (in case no one has told you that yet). ;) Can't wait to read more!
J does have two (really adorable, really sharp) teeth that came in 1 day shy of 6 months. He has been quite proficient at breaking off bits of food and, consequently, gnawing/gagging/slurping/swallowing food. There are definitely times where T and I do a major mouth sweep with our fingers if we notice he takes a particularly large bite. Otherwise, we just let him figure it out, even if that means some gagging and spitting. So far, we haven't had any "choking" or anything close.
